My Skin

So, at their unceasing demands, I ripped off my skin for
all the world...

What they saw was much darker and

Too horrible,
Too sinfully bloody,

Please, they pleaded, slunking
Put the gut-cover on tight like it used to be!

But no matter how I tugged and pulled the wrinkly sheath
It no longer fit.
